Q. What’s this Web site about?

With all of the focus and scrutiny by media and government on hospital-acquired infections, hospital administrators and health care professionals are being put under a microscope. Knowledge Is Infectious has been created as a safe and open forum for the exchange of ideas and information among professionals in the health care community.

Q. How do I access the files in the LOOK section of the site?

First, you’ll need a copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader. It is common software on most PCs. If yours does not have it, simply click on the “Get Adobe Reader” logo in the LOOK section and follow the instructions for downloading.

Once you have Adobe Reader, you can view the available files online simply by clicking on them. To download the files to your computer, right click on the file and choose “Save file as.” Mac users can hold down the control key while clicking on the file.

Q. How do I access podcasts and vodcasts?

The simplest way is to click on “Play” and listen to the streaming audio or video from the Web site. You also can download the file. (See instructions for downloading.) The audio and video files are all in MP3 format and can be played on any PC or Mac.

Once you’ve downloaded the file to your desktop, you have several options. First, you can open the file and listen to it or watch it on your PC. You may burn the file to a CD, or you can load the file onto an MP3 player or iPod by placing the file in iTunes or other music and video management software.

You may subscribe to podcasts and vodcasts from this site and have them automatically delivered to your PC as soon as they’re added to the site. To do this, simply click on the “Subscribe” button on the LISTEN section. You’ll also need to download and run a copy of Apple’s iTunes software. It’s free, and you can get it by clicking on the “iTunes” button on the LISTEN section or by going to www.apple.com/iTunes.
