Jon C. Lloyd, M.D., FACS, is regional coordinator for the Plexus Institute, an MRSA prevention collaborative in southwestern Pennsylvania. He also is former regional MRSA prevention coordinator at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. At a recent Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) press conference in Washington, D.C., he talked about the effect of process improvements on healthcare-associated infections. In this podcast, he defines “positive deviance” and reveals how listening to the ideas of frontline workers helped the VA hospital cut healthcare-associated MRSA rates in half.
